I've always seen Derasas at the LFS at 2-3 inches at most. It was about a month ago that I noticed that they brought in some 5 inch Derasas. I wasn't interested at the time, since I already had one. A month passes, and nobody has purchased any of them! They had their mantles extended quite spectacularly -an inch or two from the shell margins, and packed on half an inch's growth since their introduction. I decided then and there that I would get one, because they were looking so fantastic. It was in such good health that when I opened the bag back at home, the clam was already open, just chilling out. A quick inspection and scrub of the shell with hydrogen peroxide and in it went into the DT.

It now hangs out next to my Hippopus and blue Squamosa.

I need a blue Squamosa in my life lol. I’ve been hesitant to put a clam in my tank because I have a melanurus wrasse but is that one in your pic?

Beautiful and congrats. I can't wait until we can add clams again.

Melanurus wrasse shouldn't be a problem with clams. In fact, they are pretty good pyramid snail predators...

My clams would be no more if Halichoeres wrasses ate clams. I have at least 7 different Halichoeres wrasses in the tank, Melanurus included, and they will pick at the shell at worst.

Well alright then[emoji106] I had just done a quick google and found a couple complaints about it and just went with it. Now to go shopping...

I mean, your mileage may vary, some specimens may very well harass clams, but I believe that a large majority don't, so you should be alright.
