For the experienced aquarist.......Do you research everything or take a leap of faith? Is every modification or change documented in your aquarium journal or do you go with your gut and do whatever whenever? This is in regards to builds, stocking, maintenance, chemistry, compatibility, etc.

A little of both!

I’d say I lean more towards the planning/researching/documenting side on most things, and it generally serves me well

My plans tend to allow for some amount “fluidity” though (I change my mind often) and i’m not always perfectly on schedule for things like maintenance and testing but I’m on the lookout for tools to help make that easier

Lots of research, educated decisions or guidance from others, feedback and past experience.

I’m lazy with maintenance, but issues get addressed immediately with concrete solutions.

I try to do my research and only make changes to my system that I think will be beneficial as well as fitting my current maintenance routine. I don’t write everything down but I keep a solid mental journal.

When I started I asked here a LOT.

Now I do a fair amount of research.

This hobby does not lend itself well to leaps of faith.
I only ask because I am usually a risk taker LOL. I enjoy the lesson...usually. 🙃 I am just genuinely curious if there are others like me or if people make calculated changes.

Have you battled dinos yet? That helped cure me of taking too many risks.

I've also learned you cannot trust an LFS person regarding livestock.

Amen!
But remember that Jesus Created the reefs in a day!
And I heard this:

Faith has it's proper place, and that's not in our reef tanks, imo.

I always research before buying or doing anything!
