Hey

So I am liking what I am reading ant looking forward to learning this system - I have wanted a Hydros or Apex for a while, but I can't justify the pricing when I have basically built my own already with a wifi power bar and other USB/WIFI items from amazon.

Currently on my phone I have

Wifi dosing (aqualine 2 / Kameor x1)
Wifi Leak Detection
Wifi Lighting - through My Ai
Ability to shut off my skimmer/ato/ canister filter(s)

Ive JUST purchased the inkbird with wifi so I can control my heater too.

I like the idea of auto water changes, I like the idea of having everything in one app and ability to monitor temp/ph/SG as I was going to buy the $100 amazon pond monitoring system just to have this additional on my phone. However this seems to do all of that on one app/interface.

I am rather mechanically/electrically inclined, but have never coded so that may be a learning curve.

The more I read, the more I think I don't need the super ultra deluxe kit -
These are my needs -
Remote monitor Temp/SG/PH
Skimmer cup level (HOB)
ATO usage (currently running one non-wifi)
I'd like to program something so that if my leak detection goes off, that it shuts off my canister filters/skimmer (only real source of a leak, unless the tank blows out)
dosing levels so I know when I need to buy more
Auto WC
Reduce the apps I have to run and the miles of cords I have
Activate a feed mode where all wavemakers (X3) shut off

My biggest question, is it better/more cost effective to buy from robo-tank.ca or build it on my own?
I understand that I can do it cheaper myself, but that doesn't mean its more cost effective if you know what I mean.

Does it matter which sensors I buy?
Can I use/maintain my existing dosing systems or is it all controlled through reef-pi?
My only laptop is a macbook pro, is this an issue?
is the app iOS compatible for my phone?

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction

Tough question.. As for coding a new software called CURSOR can help you code easily, I built an app with it not too long ago. I feel like buying from reef tank themself would be easier but if you wanna save money do it on your own.
