I've had the brown leather (top right) for about 4 months and it opens fully daily and is also growing well. The yellow leather in the front I've had about a month now and it won't extend its polyps. I do add iodine. It was extending in the shop I bought it at and did for a few days after I brought it home.

Any ideas why the yellow is not extending?

Leathers can be funny like that. I have several myself. I just moved one from a small tank to my larger tank a few days ago. It is just now opening up this morning. Sometimes they "shed." If you use a turkey baster, you can help them slough the layer they are shedding. Another thought is that a nearby coral may be irritating it.

Agreed. My green polyp toadstool hasn't opened in 2 weeks and yesterday it was fully extended and looked great. Hermits sleep in mine and make it close a lot. Give it time and see if it opens up soon.

My leathers always looked best (and opened) when they were given high light.
