I’ve had this leather coral for 2 weeks now and it’s green polyps have only come out one time about the 2nd or 3rd day I’ve had it and that’s it, the second picture is of that 3rd day and I’d like to add that i have a hammer coral and a rose bubbletip that are doing just fine, ammonia -0, nitrates have been consistent 5-10ppm and my dkh was at 9 yesterday when i tested at about mid day. I’m using a maxspect 200watt for lighting and it’s at 50% for whites and blues. It opens during the day and closes at night like i would expect but won’t extend its polyps, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks guys

Leathers do this on occasion. It is referred to as "shedding". Totally normal.

They recede when shedding but 2 weeks is long. They develop a plastic like film on the surface which needs to expel. Trying blowing them off gently with a turkey baster and by next day should be open. Do aim some water flow at them which they require/desire.

Yes, if it's still not open in a couple more weeks then you might want to consider looking into why it's upset, but for now, nothing to worry about.

They do recede when lights out. That's normal and open within an hr or two after lights are on. They do best in lighting heavy in blue with some white but not white dominant .

I agree that most leathers complete the shed in under two weeks, but I have also had several that stayed closed up like that for over a month, then finally shed and are perfectly healthy.

Ok. Tomorrow I’ll move it to a higher flow area in the tank and give it some more time

That leather kept waxing over for the first mouth or maybe longer but then went from around 2" to about a foot across in a year
