Lens gurus help needed

Good morning I am looking to get some help. My wife has taken up a new hobby since we are at a stay at home order. She has been taking pictures of birds.
I am hoping someone can help me out on a lens I can get her for mothers day. She wants a lens that has a good zoom.
Her camera is a Canon eos t6i rebel. The lens she has been using is a efs 55-250mm. Can someone point me in the right direction for a better lens.

Like most things in life budget is important.
Tons of bird photography forums as well.

There's tons of types of lenses that suit different needs. You will need to figure out what she needs.

It's almost like going into a bird forum and aski g what light for my saltwater tank.

I say this only because I had the same one. LOL

Lots of birds in my area and I've been taking a lot of photos to keep myself busy during these societal restrictions.

I use a Nikon D750 and found this:

Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2 for Nikon F

Of course, this is for the Nikon body, so you would have to get a lens with the proper mount for the Cannon body.

One thing... check my info... I'm new to the photography hobby too. I haven't made the purchase yet as I would bring the body with me to try the lens out first. I'd want to be sure it was what I expected first.

fwiw, Cannon recommends their EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM Telephoto Zoom Lens for bird/wild like photography about $700. that may be a good start, at least the specs

many choices based on the budget your willing to put and also on the type of birds she wants to photograph.
I'm more familiar with the Nikon lens lineup but there would be equivalents in Canon or in Tamron/Sigma lenses made for Canon.
70-200 2.8 is a very popular choice for serious birds photographers. zoom isn't very much but on a crop sensor if your canon body is cropped you get aroudn 300 mm which isn't bad at all. a 1.4 or 2.0 teleconverter and your at doublethe range yet loose one or two step s in aperture which will affect your speed
the 300mm F4 is also a good choice and believe the 500mm sigma had good reviews if I remember correctly.
again budget will be a huge player here, and also size and weight as you mention it's for your wife.
i had Ok results using the 70-300mm but at 5.6 when at 300 mm it affected shutter speeds and I struggled to freeze the motion so unless you're in very bright conditions I wouldn't really recommend.
