About two weeks ago I came on here asking for help about my sick female and came to the conclusion of having to quarantine my 3 fish in the tank because she had ich
I’ve only been keeping fish for about 6 months and this is my first time quarantining fish obviously. I’ve been doing everything right for 2 weeks my cooler is around 2 to 2.3 the whole time ammonia has been 0 the whole time I’ve done water changes and replaced the copper and been siphoning out the waste twice a day and I’ve been logging it all in a daily notebook and the three dishes appetite and activity and white spots or not.

For 2 weeks the female got so much better no more visible white spots always active and eating like a pig every day same with the goby and the male clown w one’s awesome

Yesterday I went out of town I got up at. 5:30 am did a 5 gallon water change it’s a 20 gallon tank and in the morning I noticed the female breathing a bit faster but not crazy and she’s done this once before but it had gone away and I made sure everything good I tested every parameter the filter the heater and the air stone are going and I didn’t get back home till midnight and she breathing rapidly and kinda tilting at a 45 degree angle and I checked again all parameters perfect no ammonia temp is 75 copper is 2.08 and salinity 1.025 and the other two fish are perfect it’s just her. So I went to bed and this morning I woke up to her on the floor she had jumped out.

It’s so demoralizing it’s my first time and I’m doing everything to a T and I wanted her to survive so bad and she’s improving for 2 weeks and then within less than 24 hours she crashes and jumps the tank I just can’t wrap my head around it and I feel like there’s nothing possible I could have done other than have a lid but besides the jump she was rapidly declining within 12 hours of that day before she jump it just dosnt make sense to me and I feel like this isn’t for me or I don’t want to keep going and now when I take care of the other two fish for another month and a half I’m just gonna see the little male clown fish alone and that’s all I’m going to think about

If anyone has any ideas of what could have happened I’d appreciate jt

Sorry that happened. It's hard to say what was wrong with her, especially since the other fish seem fine and your parameters looked good.

One thing I'd recommend is a secure lid. In my opinion that's half the success of a quarantine tank. Clowns aren't usually jumpers, but any fish can jump, especially when stressed or sick. It doesn't have to be expensive either. Egg crate can usually work fine, unless the fish is very small.

Don't take this so close to heart. We all love our animals, but these things do happen. Fish jump out all the time, it's why most people keep screens on their tanks. It's a good idea to get one. It can even be a regular egg crate cut to size.

Hard to know why she was deteriorating before she jumped, but that also happens. Fish seems to recover and then... suddenly relapses. You still have two fish to take care of and eventually you can get another clown to pair with the one you have. You have to get the right size (has to be either much smaller or much bigger than the one you still have) and chances of them pairing are pretty decent.

Hang in there! Don't get discouraged. Every single person here has lost an animal. Yesterday I found my brittle star being eaten by my snails. That bummed me out. But we move on!

Sorry to hear and now that you have a QT tank, consider a screen top to prevent this and run copper within 24 hours at 2.25ppm as copper starts to take effect at 2.0 offering no advantage keeping it this low

Are you saying if it’s below 2.25 it’s not doing anything?

Also thank you everyone for the kind words and I’ll try and figure out some sort of screen lid it just sucks I definitely get more attacked than a normal person lol and I hate how there’s no answer to what happened or no signs cuz she had being doing amazing up until 24 hours before this

Literally not. No effect on parasites
And k thank you I’ll add a little more tn it’s just hard cuz I been measuring my tspns so if it’s at 2.08 I’ll how much to add to get to 2.25-2.5 and I don’t wanna just add blinded and test cuz they are expensive lol

I highly suggest to monitor with Hanna Brand copper test kit for accurate measurement

Update everyone the male clown and goby were perfect last night they both ate and all parameters are perfect but I woke up this morning and the goby was dead in the bottom of the tank I just don’t get it like he was perfect the night before what could I be doing wrong
