lens question

so im looking at the canon 100mm MACRO lenses and i came across the USM and NON USM lenses i know the usm is ultra sonic motor; but i was curious are both lenses still telephoto? or does the USM eliminate that?

Telephoto is just a way of saying
In photography and cinematography, a telephoto lens is a specific type of a long-focus lens in which the physical length of the lens is shorter than the focal length.[1] This is achieved by incorporating a special lens group known as a telephoto group that extends the light path to create a long-focus lens in a much shorter overall design. The angle of view and other effects of long-focus lenses are the same for telephoto lenses of the same specified focal length. Long-focal-length lenses are often informally referred to as telephoto lenses although this is technically incorrect: a telephoto lens specifically incorporates the telephoto group.[2]

A focusing motor should not change it.

i thought telephoto meant that the lens physically zoomed out of the body of the lens? like in the first link i shared. is that going to be the same on both lenses?

Either of those lenses are going to be more than fine. Moving the front lens forward away from the next set of "elements" is a way to increase magnification. And has nothing to do with the term telephoto.
USM is just a realy nice motor and advertising keyword. Yea probably makes for better faster focusing maybe.
Me Id get the cheaper one and still have cash for more corals.
You wont be disappointed in either one of those lenses.

believe itll affect the speed of focusing and also the noise level of focusing which might be important based on what type of photography you do. A lense will last you a lifetime if properly taken care of so if price difference is not big or not an issue I'll go with the better model.
