I just ordered a kit to replace my stock lighting in my biocube 14 from rapid led. I see that you can buy lenses to go over yet he led"s how will this work with the splash guard already obstructing the light? Has anyone used these and have input? Thanks.

No lenses, not needed unless your tank is deeper. I have a 180 gallon tank and I run mine with no lenses. Plus the light mixes better so you do not get the spot light effect

No lenses for that set up. I have a 29 biocube with the rapidled retro kit without lenses and have no issues.

Would it hurt to put them on? I was thinking you would get good coverage and could run the intensity a little less. Thanks for the quick replies. I am getting ready to put a second driver on so I can ramp blues and whites separate. I picked up a cyan and a red as well. Currently running 7 whites and 5 blues on a single driver with the storm controller.

You could run them with lenses and dial them down if you want. I prefer no lenses on my leds and turn them up higher.

I had a biocube 14 with steve's extreme kit plus 6 violets - a ton of light - but ran without lenses an still had a few issues getting coverage evenly distributed because of the biocube lid profile and the LEDs are so close to the water. Can you try it with lens and without? I don't see lens being very good in this application.

The intensity without lenses will more than likely already be enough to kill just about anything if you put it at 100%, with lenses you will have insane hot spots where nothing can live but the spots outside of that will be very dark.

I have a nano 12g with these lights. I just have them under the splash guard. I lifted the lid and mounted it above the tank to give me more room in the sump area. Here's a pic.
