Agree. This is a place for learning. There are no dumb answers or questions. If you can't take the time to scope your responses in a proper manner then just move on. There are enough problems to deal with without someone adding their bad day to the mix.

Yes preach!! I just thought opening a thread like this can bring light to rather rude/passive aggressive responses. It’s normal we all have bad days but I’d like everyone to feel like they can share their experiences bad and good or funny lol

Yeah that’s pretty messed up. This isn’t the easiest hobby and there aren’t any true “experts”. Just people who probably have made plenty of their own mistakes (some really embarrassing) and have learned from them. I don’t care what people here tell you, there is NO instruction manual for keeping a reef tank. It’s way too complicated and there are way too many variables that come into play and everyone seems to have their own individual piece of the overall puzzle whether they realize it or not. This is why we see even “master” reef keepers get completely humbled every now and then by a tank crash that everyone here thinks they should have seen coming.

I get the exact same stuff! Some of it are old mistakes too that I’ve learned from and people bash me after the fact. These ones are some of the worst that I think are straight rude and demeaning

I like to think that most of us comment on things we have personal experience with too, not just guessing. So to have someone argue about your own personal experience, whether they agree with it or not, is pretty childish.

We should all just get along and realize how lucky we are to be able to enjoy this hobby and help others along the way!

That’s what IMO makes this hobby so difficult. Other hobbies there are a couple ways maybe to do something but here there are no two experiences the same! Different ways, brands, filtration, lights, new stuff etc etc etc the list goes on it’s hard getting started to me because there is so much to consider! Definitely makes it fun though to see all the different ways things can go wrong and right lol

NACHOOOOOOOOOOO

I definitely agree though, we should be here to offer advice and help one another!

As sad as it is, this is how society is becoming in general. Things are getting more stressful and people are getting colder and quicker to snap at you over insignificant things. I have my own footprint in the political theater and even I go down that rabbit hole of negativity every now and then only to see what’s happening and back out of it. I’d MUCH rather have a civil conversation with people because it makes me better too, so the last thing I want is to have the negativity that I’m admittedly capable of follow me to this forum.

Hahaha yeah hostility is on the rise and hopefully everyone can do their part, despite others, and play nice! Maybe things will take a change. Positivity! 1615322242848.gif

There are no dumb questions. However, there are answers that are counter productive and actually hurt the hobby. This hobby isn't cheap and mistakes can be costly and take months to correct.

Claiming that LED's can't grow coral and other nonsense that is totally contrary to industry science should be treated as griefing and not an opinion.

I'm happy to see this thread.
I've had "miscommunications" with some people here.
I try to be nice and helpful when and where I can.

Some of the problem is that text can come across much different than the intended thought.

Thats the worst when intentions are lost in text. One reason why I never use all caps lol.

Also, if that first screenshot is mine I completely stand by it. Screenshot_20210309-144328_DuckDuckGo.jpg
I’ve never been a fan about making generalizations about people though. I like to treat people as if each day is a new one and they might have decided to change their ways that particular morning. I wouldn’t have made that decision that he hadn’t for him though and I can understand the reaction. That’s just me.

A lot of those are the beginnings of basic criticism. Some are mean, but others perfectly fine imo. This forum shouldn’t be a place where everyone is immune to being corrected.

He admitted to it after but I see your point. My main goal was to help keep his tank intact.

I speak only from experience. That's all I have.
No accolades in front of my name.
I'm not a scientist. Just a cook and a hobbiest.
I try my best to offer solutions and calm people down on here.
I'm so glad someone else spoke up. There's enough negativity and hatred in the world right now. I don't need to be on here for that.
So thank you for stepping up.
Many times I say nothing on here for this specific reason. It's annoying and uncool.
Peace to those who are on here for the right reasons. There are many. Thanks for all the help.
No one has spoken ill of what I've said.
But I also have questions I don't ask.
There should be no reason for that.
Since our society can hide on the internet now, hatred becomes easier. We also make it okay.
I don't think 20 years ago a hobbiest from across the country would come to my house and beat the crap out of me because I don't use carbon in my tank anymore. My phone is my sword. Makes me sad.
So once again thanks for starting this thread. Made my day.
Hopefully more will chime in.
