Greetings all. I’m someone who spends more time than is healthy on here. I’ve been a prolific rambler in my long build which is nearing its end.

I have some KP live rock and a bunch of frags from an awesome member one here. One of which is a green Hydnophora which has been hairy and snatching flake since day one. I realize I really love the subtle movement of a happy sps.

obviously one day I would like acros, but I’m taking my time. One coral ive had my eye on since day one is Pavona.

and since I feel like it’s a safe sps to try as a beginner, I’ve been wanting to get my hands on some frags and grow out some awesome colonies.

SO. To you Pavona keepers out there, share some pics! What has your experience of care been? Any major differences between the different Pavonas in our passion? (Encrusting vs others?)

I really love this coral and feel like it’s under represented in the hobby. So let’s change that!!

Think about a spot for it to grow out, my colony takes up a lot of real estate.

I have 2...

One an ORA mint chip, which is a smooth skin pavona, and a hairy pavona. Neither of which require any special care beyond strong lighting and decent flow over them(typical SPS care requirements). Neither of which are an encrusting type, but as with typical SPS fashion, they will encrust onto the rock to stable the colony for upwards growth.

If my lights were on, I would post a couple pics.

Truly awful cell phone pic, but here is a chunk of my pavona maldivensis sitting in a frag system. It is looking a little rough as I chopped a bunch up a few weeks ago. I have another chunk in my display but heavy morning blues are running now.

I've had this specie under 600 PAR and as little as 150 and it just keeps chugging along. As long as there is flow it seems happy.

Here is a pic of my ora mint pavona underneath my princess disatah granulosa. It is super easy to care for and I would consider it a beginner coral as far as care goes. High flow creates a nice scrolling growth form…..

Our Purple Pavona is thriving very nicely. We have it in medium lighting and feed it with phyto and baby brine shrimp. We haven't noticed too much differences between the types but FWIW placement is key for us though.

ORA mint chip:

I am so glad to see this has a name. I got it from my local store (I love buying there because no one buys corals in maine and they've been there forever, are huge, and still priced like teeny frags). Its been brown until about a month ago and then then edges started going green. I thought I was killing it, but the colors are so gorgeous, I figured I'd let it go out in its own way. NOW I see it was SUPPOSED to be this color, all along!
