Let’s talk dehumidification

Let’s talk about dehumidification. With this heat wave blowing across the country. Many people are experiencing three digit attempts at the moment. Depending on your tank size, the last thing you want in your house is excessive humidity compounding to the torture lol. So simple questions.

1) are you currently running a dedicated dehumidifier in your house full-time. Or just hvac. If neither. Why not?

2) What is your current inside humidity and tank size?

3) How much water do you lose a day

4) your tank is larger than say 100 gallons and are not dehumidifier. What are you doing to control levels in your home


To answer my own question

1) yes run both HVAC and a small Midea cube that runs full time at 45%

2) house stays between 50-60% rh in the summer. Can’t get it any lower. Tank size 350 Gallons

3) loss about 5 gallon a day. Dehumidifier pick up about 3-4 gallons a day.

4- NA since I’m running a dedicated dehumidifier.

Small sub 1200 sf ranch with 2 window AC units on the living level and a dehumidifier running 24/7 in the basement set at 45% where there is a 40g and 29g tanks. On the first floor currently 330g in the living room, 65g and a 100g in the dining room (65 is on the way out) and a 20g in a bedroom. Humidity tends to run uncomfortably high around here often. If temps permit I open up and if it's 70% humidity outside it's usually about the same inside. Sometimes I'll run the AC units in dry mode but not often. House is never below 50% even when I ran a dehumidifier on the 1st floor.
House was built when they thought wrapping the walls in plastic was a great idea so it doesn't breath at all and I have to wipe moisture off the windows daily in the winter. I looked onto a central AC unit with and air exchanger but it was way out of my price range for as short as summers are here.

You stay at 50 in even in the winter. That’s the only time I drop into the 35-45 range.

I don't remember it ever being less but I don't really pay that much attention to it. Even now after the AC units have been running for 3 days set at 73 degrees the humidity is currently 57%

2000 sq ft ranch 185 gallon tank. My HVAC unit is 1/2 ton too small to keep the temp where I would actually like it so it runs often. 120 pint/day whole house dehumidifier in the attic with intake next to the aquarium and exhaust in the dining room. RH typically 42-60% depending on outdoor levels. Note the RH on my HVAC thermostat is always dead wrong, reads way too high I check with an extech handheld unit I use for work.
