Alright that was the other thing I was wondering.
I was also reading they sometimes nip at clams and sps. I'm glad he's not doing that

They will never nip at sps, and I believe any accounts of them nipping at clams is a case of them hunting, and finding, pods and/or pests on the clam, or the clam had already died.

Nah, total misinformation.

Agree, but my thoughts on the clam front are accounts of them being flipped over hunting and picking of pyramidal snails (just to be a bit more specific).

I bought this as a Lubbock's wrasse quite some time ago, but it has never taken on what I know as one of the male coloration forms. Also, it has recently displayed some aggression towards other wrasses which I understand is generally inordinate with the normal temperament of a Lubbock's. What do you think?

Looks to be a female lubbocki which is now becoming an initial phase male, which would also explain the bout of aggression.

That's a male Hooded Fairy Wrasse, Cirrhilabrus bathyphilus. Looks like yours is from the Coral Sea. A very nice Fairy Wrasse either way, and sounds like you may have gotten a deal on it :)

Got this guy at lfs yesterday. Didn't get any kind of a name from them so other than what I found online that I think it may be first pic is in the bag with flash. Next our swimming in tank so not great but neither is in the bag pic......

Looks simular to this guy but lacking in same coloring

Its a C. pylei, Cebu variant. This is fairy that is pretty aggressive toward other fairu and flasher wrasses, but its a fish I think is underrated because of that aggression.

Well its in the tank now with a red head fairy wrasses and a chalk bass. No major issues yet just the usual posturing and flashing.


Guess I'll have to keep an eye out when add more wrasses in future....

The flasher in the first pics is P. lineopuctatus, while the numbered one is C. cf cyanopleura, number 2 is C. adornatus, and number 3, I cant tell for certain but appears to be a hybrid flasher, if it has what appears to be a somewhat lunate tail, but I could just be seeing things.
