Let Me ID Your Wrasse!

I was wondering if you can help me with ID of this wrasse. It is purple with a little bit of yellow on its nose and you can see in photo that it has small white dots along its side

. When lights are on.

A transitioning Cirrhilabrus melanomarginatus, blackfin fairy wrasse.

Could you help me Id this? I got him yesterday and he stays on the bottom, should I be worried?

Last night he was in a corner, today he's laying near an airstone.

That is a Lubbock's fairy wrasse. It can take wrasses a few days to settle on, especially in a qt. But if he's not eating there may be a problem.

Do I need a container of sand for it? Also, if so, whats the best kind to use? Will a container of live sand cycle the QT?

Nope . Cirrhalibrus species do not need sand . What food was it eating when you bought it ? What food have you tried ? Have you tried live blackworms ?

Right now I've tried both mysis and pellets soaked in selcon. He doesn't leave the bottom, and hasn't expressed any interest in food yet. Live blackworms may be difficult to get my hands on before it is to late.

This one was labeled as a pintail fairy wrasse at my LFS, but I’m thinking it might actually be a Lunate? Not sure if it’s still female or early transitioning male? Ignore the spots on the glass that I haven’t cleaned yet today ;)

Just saw this thread! I got a little female from my LFS - didn't know what she was but not doing well so brought her home. Six months later she is doing great... not sure what she is... yellow fin wrasse?

I have another one...she was labeled as a “hooded flame wrasse” at my LFS. I’m guessing female Cirrhilabrus bathyphilus?
