Hi friends ,

Have started my reef after 6 years . Here's the build thread :-

Tank is 30 in x 30 in x 18 in and gonna be sps dominated .

Just received my first fishes - a pair of onyx clowns .
I like to have less fishes with focus on specific species . Thought was to either make it anthias or wrasse specific.

Want to know how would you stock the tank ? May be 1-2 show fishes and everything around them ?

A flasher or small fairy wrasse would work, perhaps a yellow coris too.

For anthias, a small group of randalls.

Divers den have a trio of dispar .. thinking of taking the plunge but wanted to check ..

They are compatible in care. I suggested randalls over dispars because they stay smaller and your tank is on the small side for a group of social anthias.

Thanks for the reply . As far as aggression goes , how well do Randall's do among groups ? And how difficult generally to get them eating ?
Lastly challenge is to find good specimens .

Randalls do well in groups and usually aren't too difficult to get eating, they are an easier anthias species.

I only have one peacock wrasse, I also have a adorned wrasse (Halichoeres cosmetus) and a yellow coris (Halichoeres chrysus) and there is no aggression between them at all. My peacock wrasse eats the same as the rest of my fish which i feed the following: Fresh or frozen clams, scallops, mysis, Artemis enriched with spirulina, artemis enriched in omega3, small krill, marine mix. I don't feed my tank dry food except the odd occasion i add some algae flakes which all the wrasse eat too, my adorned wrasse will eat nori too. I also add some live brine enriched brine shrimp and ghost shrimp from time to time too.

Peacock wrasse have a reputation for being difficult, but mine was brilliant from day one but I do put that down to in the UK we don't really have anything like liveaquaria so mail order fish is not common, my lfs holds all new fish for two weeks in his QT system where he dewormsand either copper or hyposalinity depending on species, its not fool proof like any lfs who offer some kind of QT but I think its great for the fish to settle and destress after being caught and flown around the world etc, my wrasse was eating from day one.

Yes, fairy wrasses mix well for the most part.

Thanks for the reply.. I might have the chance to pick up a trio of leopard wrasses.
Now they are claimed to be difficult , needing a matured tank.
I have a 1-1.5 inch sandbed with Tropic Eden sand and feeding only LRS frozen foods and PE mysis frozen ..

Do you think its ok to try a trio of the leopards ? I might keep the tank to themselves apart from a pair of onyx clowns if thats what they need ..

Trying a trio of leopards will be fine. They don't handle shipping well, and because of that, can be challenging the first few weeks. But after thay settle can be quite hardy.
