As the titles states. I would love to see pictures of Acro's in all of their daylight glory. Just trying to get ideas as I am going to start up my 480 gallon peninsula with "old school" pieces in a couple of months. I am going to run 400w Radiums so not interested in the blue light corals.

Even if pictures are 20 years old, Let's see them! I love seeing Acro's true colors in daylight.

Let's see those Pearlberrys, Red Planets, Purple Monsters, Palmers blue millis, ....you get the jist.
Totally my jam! Can’t wait to see these pics!

here are a few from my reef under natural sunlight.

These photos make me want to install some domes now that I am living in Florida. Just finishing my garage so it’s about the perfect time. Wish I had time to research some more in depth on it. How have your domes held up to weather and everything, still clear?
I have to admit my favorite tank was one from someone in Africa using all natural light and a huge turf scrubber. His stags looked like they were in a thriving healthy ocean.

I've had very good luck with the sun domes the tubing themselves haven't needed any maintenance in 11 years the acrylic domes have been replaced one time due to some clouding that polishing and wet sanding wouldn't remove.

I go on the roof about every 6 to 9 months and hit them with some high grit wet dry sandpaper and then polish them out with Chemical Guys fine cut polish and they are as clear as they were when installed.

I still get very high par readings in the high 200's at the sandbed I do occasionally break the 300 threshold at the sand bed but nothing sustained for long periods of time.

When I think of investment and costs in this hobby what my old 150 gallon reef was costing me running three 250 watt metal halides and four 160 vhos and a chiller the cost for the 400 for lighting is next to nothing. Bonus I don't need a chiller, just a small fan and the tank stays between 76-77 all year.

It’s a shame that this thread is a throwback when it should be the norm. I have royal blue Reefbrite strips on one system with halides and the same strips on another system with t5.

Maybe it’s just me but if I look at my tank while it’s blue for too long (as is the norm now) it seems to hurt my eyes. It’s refreshing to see honest colors in pictures of the true beauty of our corals without having it look like we’re in a black light funhouse.

Bingo, anybody can shine a blue light on something and call it blue.

To add to this...I can’t even count how many times I’ve seen people’s tanks running a blue schedule and asked them to flip on the daylights only to see drab, browning and unhealthy corals that only looked good under their blue lights. And they usually have more algae than they know since blue light masks some problems. I want my sticks to GLOW under halides and t5’s.

LED’s (specifically royal blue and violet) many times show colors that aren’t even there. if I shined a black light in the dark at a bunch of friends, all their teeth look blue and purple and fluoresce. But are their teeth really blue? Just boggles me that people ohhh and ahhh over things that simply aren’t true. To each his own I guess, but I often find myself buying frags from people who run heavy blue schedules only to have to place them deep in a corner with less light in my tanks because they’re not ready for “real” light and need to adjust.

Yep agree with all of that.

Having similar issues under my halides. A very long acclimation period from ~150 tank to 500 par.

share with us your 14k pics....
I'm using 14k MH hamilton bulbs....they look very natural, coral seems to love them very much!
I will update my build thread soon with some recent coral pics photographed under daylight halides. Here is a small sample. Cheers!

Here are some whites from a previous system. My laptop got messed up and after being repaired my photos are all over the place. The majority of these were under G5 blue xr30s. I ran 3 on this 48x24x15" tank perpendicular to the length of the tank. They worked very well.
I replaced them later with 2x250w and 2 36" xho in the form of a Reefbrite hybrid fixture. My favorite fixture/combo to date. I'll try to dig those pictures up as well. I plan to go back to 14k hamiltons soon on my current build. Hard to beat them IMO. The TGC Creamsicle/Sexy Corals Orange Passion picture was the 14k hamiltons, I think with the XHO on.

This is probably my favorite thread now, amazing pieces everyone.

I have been really tempted to try solar tubes but I worry about the variances day to day with acropora. I'm sure they'd work well in SoCal too, but worry me.
