Has anybody been at the fish store and over hear a customer asking what brand of salt mix is good to use......then that customer says actual table salt brands that didn't work and killed her fish. Sorry, had to share that lol. Then we all pitched in and put her on the right path:D to successful saltwater fish keeping

Anyone else have any stories of their lfs's?

Or when people see a fish they have and say how long they have had him and that they named him survivor.......lol!!!!! It's just funny to hear the things some people say

i think this guy was kind of an idiot and cruel in all honesty... he said that his anenome split all the time (that immedietly perked my interest) he said that it happened whenever he would add freshwater to his tank (most likely due to stress or something) and then he proceeded to say that he would add freshwater to his tank directly over the anenome just to see it split.

I'm a little lost, did that happen at your store? Why would he do that?

at the store i usually go to. some guy was talking to a employee, saying that his anenome splits all the time and then he proceeded to explain when it usually does it. and how he dumps fresh water on it to force it to split.

Haha, perfect! I also like it when clearly someone asked what kind of crab is that......and the owner of the store tells them it's a stone crab when clearly it's a porcelain crab lol. He hated me correcting him, he even looked it up haha

im gonna seem like a weirdo but i go to the LFS everynow and again with my book "what fish? a buyers guide to marine fish" it shows all the different types of fish for aquariums with there habits, pricing, food, size, sexing etc etc etc and ill try to negotiate prices down and its ridiculous how misinformed the majority of people who work at LFS's are.

I need to do the same thing. I bought a Clownfish the other day for 29.99!! Made me so mad. My lfs charges way to much. 8.99 for a pound of live rock:mad: angry it makes me.

yeh its ridiculous sometimes, i got F$(@&$D over the other day actually, im not very savvy on designer clowns, i know what a marroon, perc, ocell etc etc is. But the fish store got me recently.... they charged me 65$ for a "phantom clown" i assumed it was a block clown... or something close to it. I posted a pic about 4 days ago... turns out its a perc..... i thought it was just young still.. im homing its atleast a perc mixed with a onyx or something when it matures.

Yeah the lfs people really need to learn more about they're fish and corals. Mine can't even tell me the name of they're corals. I ask and they say zoanthids........um yes I'm well aware of that, but I'm asking for the name of them, what what kind of coral they are.

one of the LFS I used to go to would tell their customers to always fully stock their CUC before adding any other live stock. not a horrible idea right? except when one guy had just started a 300 gallon reef and the guy told him to add 200 snails and 200 crabs at once and not to add fish for a month and not to feed the tank... I mean, I know people who add the start to their CUC before they add fish, like a couple snails towards the end of their cycle, but this dude told him to put in 400 inverts and not to give them any food... wonder how many would have died in that month..

had another one say to put in dry rock, dry sand, and saltwater then wait for 24 hours for the water to stabilize and then they could fully stock their tank right away so long as they did a 10% water change within a month... I don't go to either of these lfs anymore. now I only goto ones ran by hobbyists and professionals.
