LFS, what a joke!

How can a LFS sell fish and corals but "not have a way" of testing your water for magnesium? How do they test there coral tanks then? What a joke! I bought my Red Sea Mag kit from them and have had a few miss readings so I figured id see if they can help, hahahaha not

You would be surprised at some store never test at all even though MG is a much needed element for corals in a proper concentration that much water volume ( in a store ) does not change rapidly like are tanks what do you need to know about the redsea mg kit I use that also and salifert maybe i can help , if you would like to switch to a nice easy one I recommend Elos that is what I switched to. good luck

Not all LFS's test the water in their coral tanks very often. With the amount of sales they do each week, the replenishment with new saltwater can tend to keep their parameters very stable. Even if they do test, Magnesium is really the least of their concern as they focus more on salinity, alkalinity and calcium with Salinity being the major one.

With that said, water testing is a simple process and wouldn't cost them much to have a test kit on-hand. However if they are a smaller LFS, they may not have the manpower to pull off normal duties to test water samples either. If this is an important service you feel the LFS should have, it may be time to look at other LFSs in your area.

This LFS is the biggest in the area and they do test water and SG but nothing on the "reef" side of things. As for the Rea Sea Mag kit, I've found that using the 5ml syringe and filling it to the bottom plunger mark of 2ml, is actually more than 2ml's being tested. Now, using the 1ml syringe with the cap off and filling it to the .09 mark IS 1ml. Red Sea says use 2 of those added to the testing vial rather than the 5ml syringe. I was getting test results with the 5ml syringe at 1400 but only 1280 with the 1ml. Would have liked the LFS to simply test so I could compair. Ill have to look for another local reefer to see if they can help me.

they should be able to test mg is they sell reef products and livestock imho, if not for their own systems than at least to provide a good service for customers to keep them happy so they comeback for drygoods and livestock
