We have a glass lid on our 75 gallon tank.
Both front pieces are completely removable.
I have been leaving the lids off, on and off , when I am slowly feeding the newer fish with various frozen foods.

We lost our male Longnose hawkfish this week.
It jumped out while I was in the kitchen for ten minutes.
Put it back in the tank and it survived overnight but was dead by the next afternoon.
Female stayed by the male most of the time.

Is a plexiglass fence around the perimeter of the tank sufficient to keep fish from jumping out?

Does it need to be 4 inches tall, or 6 inches, or more?

Or do I just need to be more consistent keeping the lid closed whenever I'm not right next to the tank?

We normally keep the waterline above the bottom of the top frame.

Thanks!

A completely covered top is best. You would be surprised at how high some fish can launch themselves.
Yes, that was what I was afraid of.

Keeping the water line within an inch of the top looks better but it doesn't help the situation.

The wrasse hasn't tried jumping. Still sad about the Longnose. The female looks around like it is lost. Moves around from perch to perch a lot more than usual.

Super bummer, I lost my female bluejaw's 1st husband that way, I forgot to close the door overnight. She has a 2nd husband now, but I'm not sure how to sex the longnose. Is there a way to sex the longnose, if so, maybe get her another husband.

Apparently they are the opposite of clownfish.
Start up females and then transfer to males.
Size is the only really likely indicator available.
Lol, the two I had were nearly the same size and showed no real difference in coloration.
