Has anyone tried using one of these to convert a standard tank to using a sump?
I have a 40g standard (tall) tank and currently using HOB filtration, but I'd like to upgrade. I had ordered a Penn Plax canister, however it is delayed and now after further research I'm heavily considering taking my old 20 long and buying a baffle kit for a DIY sump. My issue is that the overflow boxes are 100 bucks and up, plus baffle kit, plus skimmer, plus plus plus until I'm at the point where I may as well spend the extra 100 bucks or so and just buy an out-of-the-box sump.
If anyone has used these to plumb a standard tank with no plumbing holes pre-drilled, please lend me your feedback! This would be a much cheaper (and more pleasing to my eye) option than an overflow that has a higher potential of failure than fully plumbed.
