Light brown flakey residue?

I use Instant Ocean Reef Crystals for my salt and I use RO/DI water. After 6 months, my mixing reservoir has a layer of this stuff on the bottom. Any ideas what is is and it it's dangerous? I'm removing it with a shop vac as we speak.

You'll get that after awhile, especially with Reef Crystals. I would take your mixing reservoir outside every 6 months and rinse it out.

I just did that today with the garden hose. First time.

I actually like to wipe mine down using vinegar soaked paper towels. Probably going a bit overboard, but calcium deposits dissolve quickly when they come into contact with vinegar. :)
