wonder if i can get some advice on T5 lighting height

my tank is 18" deep and 5'x3'.I have a 4 bulb Tek and a 6 bulb Tek x48".Currently they sitting right on the tank on cross supports.I just bought new ATI bulbs,an even split of blue+ and aquablue and even with 3 blue+ and 1 aquablue on my tank looks great,i like the look.

Wonder what you would recommend for a height or if you would leave it as is? I see so many tanks of various depth with the lights suspended at least 12" above the water if not more.

I was thinking of building a glass 'stand' and not sure how high it would be if I do.

So if it was you what would you do or how would you set it up?

My tank is 24" deep and I have my six bulb setup so it is about 5" above the water, I think closer is better.

i was thinking 3-6 inches just enough to allow for heat separation
