So I am looking to get lights for my 40 gallon breeder project. I am looking to keep a mixed reef, mainly softies/LPS and some easier to keep SPS. My budget is $500 total, I'm open to used. I also want something that can be controlled with my phones. Thoughts on 2 of the 36-48" current usa bluetooth?

I use 2 AI Prime 16HD for my 40B. Love it.
Got both used around $150 each.

you could fit 2 AI prime's or 2 Kessils into your 500$ budget.

Another choice is maybe AI prime Hydra 32 for 400$ new or can prob pick one up on the used market for around 325$. Good thing about the AI primes is they come with everything built in so you dont have to buy a add on controller

Would a single Hydra 32 work for a 40 gallon?

2 or 3 of these will work much better for much less. 1 non halide light will not sufficiently light a 40b

I suggest LED T5 hybrid.
Depends on your setup but not all T5s can be controlled via phone.
