lower light is great, especially for introduction, but if you're able to take the time and acclimate them to a higher light level, you'll see some level of nicer colors and growth IME.

1+ I started on the sandbed with my chalice and slowly started moving it towards the middle of the tank. The colors have gotten deeper.

i hve seen a lot of discussion on this matter regarding the light req for chalices...matter of fact i do hve about 20 different kinds of chalices and they all do well under 17 to 18" from my 300wt of MH...
+1 on drainbamage that acclimate slow to the brighter lights...for me more the light better the growth but that doesnt mean that keep em right under ur high output light MH bulbs...
just take ur time
