Lighting for corals

I have set up a led light strip at my marine biology classroom. The tank is about 18 inches in depth by a foot long and the led strip covers the length of the tape. I don't know the wattage or light spectrum of it but I can find out tomorrow

I used to own a 110 gallon reef tank and I successfully grew sps corals (granted they were 6 inches from the top of the tank) under 8 t-5's.

My overall question is if I can have any types of LPS corals, even if I have to put them at the tippy top of the tank, and if not LPS then at least some kind of soft coral?

There's always the non-photosynthetic corals!

But I think that a bit more information about the light strip would be useful.

Okay so I found the light. It is a marineland white and blue LED aquarium light. Is this sufficient lighting or should I get a better lighting system. If so what is a moderately priced lighting system that can grow LPS

It really depends on what lps corals you are trying to house. Some require intense lighting and others not. The light you mentioned should be fine for most lps that require moderate light.

I was hoping to house at least a torch, frogspawn, and bubble coral. Maybe some acans but I would really like a nice maze brain.
