I’m in the midst of setting up my first tank, a UNS 75SA, and I’m trying to decide on lighting. Prior to deciding on this tank, I purchased the Nicrew Navareef 65, so I do have that at my disposal. I intend to keep a mixed reef tank, starting with easy corals. I’d like to keep my options open and future proof to the extent reasonable. With that said, a couple questions:

1) Would the Navareef provide sufficient coverage? I’ll note that while the tank is shallow (11.8”), it’s also fairly long (29.xx”).

2) I like the AI lights (probably biased because they’re based out of my town, but I digress). Would the Hydra Edge 44 be adequate?

3) Assuming both lights are sufficient, does the AI provide any appreciable benefits? I’m not necessarily hyper price-sensitive, but I’m also mindful of the fact I have a lot of buying ahead of me and I’m already 2-2.5x over budget, LOL.

4) I like AI for the reasons stated above, but I’m not deadset on them. Any other lights I should consider in the sub $4-500 range?

you could have have two Noo Psyche K7's or two Nicrew 150's for $500. and have all the light you would ever need, Then if you feel light stretching it there are some Reef Breeder Meridians or Orphek Icon Natura lights that would be past your $ limit .

That Orphek is very nice, but out of budget.

I forgot to ask about the AI Blade Grow in my OP. Also seems like an intriguing option.

I saw them when building my tank (40B) but went with the Nicrew lights i was using on freshwater tanks I had. I then used the Noo Psyche on it, I have the Orphek Natura Icon light and getting it set up with a DIY mount for my 40B. The Reef Breeder Meridian 11 is on my new 20G AIO. I only advised on lights I actually own

I’m pretty sold on the AI Hydra Edge 44 unless someone tells me it’s a bad idea*

*Also trying to keep an open mind when I talk to my LFS. They carry AI as well as other brands, so I want to hear what they suggest as well. I’d prefer supporting local.
