Lighting Over frag tank

It's a free standing frag system. I did notice that one of the browned out Sps is starting to color up with some purple on the tips. I use the Hanna Meter for phosphates and salifert for nitrates. I might be crazy but I really think it was lack of light that was keeping these corals from coloring up. I guess I'll know in a few weeks if they all start to bleach out.

There are many threads on it those Hanna meters where a complete fail not worth it one bit in my opinion. ALK meter is a diffrent story so i bet your po4 is off. Also if you have alot of algea your reading will be wrong due to the algea will eat the po4 so you can't test it.

I'm running mine about 16" above the water, but my tank is only 12" tall. It used to be much lower, but my corals were dying out, so I had to raise them. Since then, everything had colored up nicely.

That's were I'm at right now. 16" above the water on a 12" tank. Hopefully that's my sweet spot also.

Sweet, good deal. I was thinking about dropping mine a bit, but I'm getting excellent color on my stuff right now. My strawberry shortcake is an awesome color right now :)

I dont think they need to be that close on a 12 inch deep tank, it would make alot of problems for the tank and the corals. first your tank is gonna get really hot lol, and evaperate more water too. also the corals might be hard to aclimate to this high intencity of lighting, then when you take them out to take them to frag shows or what now, they wont look as good because they will be in shock, also cant corals bleach from being to close to the light??

Yeah, corals WILL bleach when they are too close to the light. I had a $150 colony from Divers Den bleach on me before I finally raised my lights. Wish I still had that thing, it was nice, green, and big.
