I work sort of a second shift and have been thinking of changing up my light period. Any suggestions? I work from 11:30am to 8:pm so I'd like to get it set to where it can be viewed a little before and after I get off work. I understand I will probably have to add some more time to my lights which is fine with me. I do run an hour of dusk and dawn and typically run full lighting about 6 hrs so about 8 hrs of light time total.

my dusk/dawn are about 4 hours apiece with full lighting for 5, I've never had any algae issues and I figure the sun's out for 12+ hours outside, so why not? The intensity of your lighting is probably a factor, but generally speaking, if you're going to change it significantly I'd ramp it up gradually over a week or two.
