What's the difference by a t5ho and metal Halides is there one that is really any better than the other?

For those of you reefers about to "rock"- we salute you

T5s run cooler than MH, bulbs less expensive, but need more bulbs to match PAR of MH

So if I bought t5 fixture with say six bulbs it would compare to a MH, yet run cooler and less expensive?

Kinda sorta. Depends on the size of the T5's also. T5's will not necessarly be cheaper to run per say, but again depends on what wattage the halide and T5's are to be able to compare. The real difference is T5's offer a lot of color options. Metl halides only come in a few color profiles, but have shimmer.

Mmmmm shimmer.

I think that's the only downside to CF and T5 is that they don't give you a shimmer effect.

I didn't know that about the shimmer! Do LEDs shimmer too, though? I thought they did.

Not so sure if Nano tanks have a good quality T5 setup available but it depends on what you want to keep. Are u going for SPS, LPS, Softies, or a mix. The most lighting required is with sps then lps and then softies. Of course this addictive hobby you'll probably end up having some sps but some have preferences.
Decide what u want to keep and go from there. IMO MH or LEDs for nanos are great and you'll get the shimmer. MH will run hotter and consume more electricity and LEDs just the opposite. Think about your conditions and read read read...

T5 give off a lifeless look kinda like that white hospital waiting room type. Metal Halide And LED provide a light that makes the tank come alive Much like the light from the sun shinning through trees.
