Have a clutch of eggs from a male Lightning Maroon and a Darwin clown (black and white) is this a thing? Planning on trying to raise them. I haven't found any of these crossed together. Is there a reason? I feel like they may be the coolest ever or mutts any opinions?

Good fortune in your efforts to raise these up. The proof will be in the offspring, and I have no opinion on if they will be mutts or pups? Grow them out and we shall see.

Thanks it's going to be my first clownfish breeding attempt. I had a lot of success with freshwater angelfish but from what I've learned it's definitely a level or two up.. live rotifers inbound

Day 5 only 2-3 loses. I guess 50 now but I thought it was like 100 when I put them in.. feeling like i made my fry tank a rotifer culture. Doing 2 gallon water changes daily, slow dripping clean saltwater back in. Tinting just enough to keep the rotifers fed but not to have a explosion of them, maybe the fry only eat the baby rotifers.. I don't think I like clownfish This much

Day 8 no problems 2 gallon water changes everyday.. chasing the phyto dragon... found the best way to light the tank is with a led flashlight with the room being black had a crazy feeding response and no light chasing the sides either.. been searching and still cannot find what form a lightning maroon and a Darwin will make.. if they come out like I hope I'm calling them lightning cows lol 20230825_191940.jpg

Didn't even know these guys could breed. My guess is you'll get a bunch of blobby white bars.

Starting to get stripes. There is two different styles.. lightning maroon x black ocellaris (darwin) tired of changing water thinking up a idea like a undergravel filter but to siphon waste water out, taking the waste leaving the fry

Thought my second hatch was happening tonight. I don't think it is.. which I believe means I didn't notice the first batch of eggs the first day they were laid.. everywhere I've read they they say it takes the same amount of time to hatch.. first batch is on day 14 slowly turning into clownfish.. felt like I was raising mosquito larvae till I could see the stripes..
They look blue to me? Is this normal for darwins or....

That happens on occasion with clowns of a variety of species - I haven’t looked into the cause much yet, but my understanding is that the blue is dark pigmentation under the white scales (and it may change some with age).

To my knowledge, it’s still relatively uncommon, but people have been working to purposely breed blue into clowns for a few years now:
