Lightning maroons?

Hey all, new to reef2reef.

Just starting back up in saltwater and cycling the tank. Looking at different fish to stock the tank with being for now it will be fish only. Anyone have any experience with lightning maroon clownfish? More importantly their temprement?

Welcome to R2R! They are probably the most aggressive Clownfish. They can become absolute terrors.

The lightning maroon is on my list of future fish too. I have noticed a lfs keeps a few of them, they are the only clown in huge tanks with large fish. The maroons are not with the rest of the clowns. They don’t both the other larger fish but they go for hands in the tank.

I have one, which was added last to my semi-predator reef which contains a Picasso Trigger, pair of Bird Wrasses, and a Dwarf Lionfish. The maroon chases them all away from his domain.....and he is a third their size. I also agree, he attacks anything that goes into the tank, including my hand.

Hey, thanks everyone. Sorry for a while I haven’t been able to reply. Yeah, my friend from the lfs said they are probably the most aggressive out of all clowns hybrid or none. I wanted other peoples take on it as well. Bummer, I really dig them. However, very annoying getting bit nonstop while doing maintenance. Have had that problem before.

I tried unsuccessfully to pair them. The female beat the hell out of the male, I separated them until he healed then tried again, she beat him again and even after he died she was still beating his corpse! She is still doing great though but I am hesitant to try and add another male, I do still plan on trying again eventually.

I have a pair of Gold Lightning Clowns in my 144. It took a long time for them to pair up, tons of aggression and times I wondered if the male would survive. Now life is good they are both pleasant....until I put my hand in the tank. :D

I’ve had one for over a year now, he doesn’t nip at my hand, and seems fairly calm, although his only tank mate at the moment is a blue star leopard wrasse and some shrimp. My mom has a maroon in her reef on the other hand that is an absolute twat when it comes to hands in the tank but is fairly docile as far as bothering the other fish
