So I'm doing a big overhaul on the overflow on my established tank. I've heard over and over that thread tape shouldn't be used and to use the liquid/paste style also known by a lot of plumbers as pipe dope. My question is there anything I need to look out for? Or is pipe dope just pipe dope?

Thanks in advance and wish me luck! Once I start there's no going back!

The above picture should work fine.

Personally tape works perfectly fine and I’ve never had an issue using it. There is no reason you can’t use it.

It's just in a spot where if the back pipe of my 3 starts leaking it will be a pain tp fix so I'm hoping to get it first try :grinning-face-with-sweat:

Also get plumber silicone for the bulkhead gaskets. It’s by the bathroom fixture accessories, small jar looks like lip balm.
I would actually advise against that. The silicone grease will allow the gasket to squish out very easily.

Sweet! No leaks are good leaks!

For future reference, ptfe tape reduces friction when used with pvc and makes it very common for people to overtighten fittings to the point they crack. That is why it is advised not to use.

That makes sense! I read oreos post and it had mentioned thread tape was just used as a lubricant
