Hi all,

As I'm slowly coming back into the hobby I decided to record every possible useful tool I might have or will have and it seems like list is quite large, so I decided to post it her, so ppl might find it useful and/or maybe not complete?

Some position will have brand and model just so it's easier to explain what type of tool needed, but it could be something else, it's more about tool function, not exact specific branded version of the tool.

Tools are not listed in any particular order and definitely not in priority.

1. Utility pump, like Sicce Ultra zero utility pump, so it will allow to remove almost all water from the sump and/or other reservoirs, up to a millimiter. As an alternative to this, could be a wet vacuum.
2. Funnels, at least one mid size, but better a few various sizes. Helps with everything, starting from salt mixing and finishing with feeding
3. Tweezers, long ones, preferably stainless steel, like Aqua Medic tweezers 60
4. Scissors, again long and stainless steel, like Aqua Medic scissors 60 curved or regular or both
5. Pliers, long stainless, like Aqua Medic t-rail 60
6. Test kits, for at least ALK/Calc/Mag/PO4/NO3/NH3/NO2, I prefer Hanna and dream set would be Hanna Marine Master kit/Bluetooth + carry case
7. Refractometer, I personally prefer Digital from Hanna or Milwaukee, but I would always keep a regular one (visual light penetration) to validate results
8. Magnet Algae Scraper for your tank (Glass or Acrylic version), helps to clean tank everyday without getting hands wet
9. Long handle scraper for your type of aquarium (Glass or Acrylic) with various types of addons to be able to clean tight spots or apply more pressure for cleaning if needed
10. Adjustable pipette - amazing tool for doing your tests super quick and accurate, they cost little on Amazon and have various range of volumes you can set.
11. Flipper deepsee or an alternative magnifying glass to help you watch coral and show off pieces to guests.
12. Pippetes for tests and mixes and dosing, multi-use and single use. Short and long versions.
13. Nori feeders, everyone have their own preferences, but it's essential to have one if you have nori eaters
14. Wash bottles with volume marks, various sizes with nozzles
15. Plastic Test Tubes with volume marks, various sizes.
16. Led lights with batteries and touch function or motion sensor, to be placed in sump and other places you want to have better visibility.
17. Specimen cups and condiment cups of various volumes for one off use and multiple uses.
18. Tongs or clamp or grabber, could be anything plastic, but good quality or fancy Carbon from Tunze, this again helps to take things without getting wet
19. Reef putty or cement and super glue, everyone has own preferences.
20. Fishing nets, at least 3 sizes: small, medium and large.
21. Cleaning brushes or every possible size
22. Cleaning brushes for tubes and pipes of various diameters
23. Fish cup, like Aqua Medic Fish cup, so you can put it on a side of sump or aquarium and keep not only livestock but some tools too
24. Vacuum syphon, helps cleaning gravel/sand and/or waterchanges
25. As an alternative to syphon there are some versions where it's just to clean gravel/sand without water going out, but instead through some filter, like floss and back to aquarium. For example Eden 501 Gravel Cleaner
26. Some box to store your tools listed above.
27. Towels, lots of it.
28. Gloves, for one time use and large for many uses, maybe neoprene divers version.
29. Fish and corals acclimator dripper for example AccuDrip
30. Magic eraser (melamine foam) for glass clean, but must be without any additions!
31. Acrylic rods of various lengths and thicknesses to move snails, steer sand and etc
32. Frozen food food defroster for feeding frozen
33. Microfiber cloths for perfect cleaning glass and other items
34. Automatic fish feeder, could be a simple or controlled or even frozen food feeder.
35. VCA Vacuum Attachments and a pump to clean sump
36. Plastic spatula for cleaning sump

Hope this list will help someone and please feel free to suggest or add items, will be more then happy to do so!

Happy reefing to everyone!

I use a cheap plastic spatula to clean the sump - Get a pretty decent quality one from dollar store.
It works really well in my refugium, scrapping off the bottom and sides, then suck it out during a WC.

I keep it simple.

Hospital/quarantine tank setup.
I keep a ten gallon tank, some PVC elbows, a heater, and a simple HOB filter. When needed I can set it up very quickly and throw in a sponge from my sump to seed the filter right away.
It has worked very well when I've needed it.

Ann Arbor area?

I have two items that I have found very useful that are not standard
1. Electric Utility tooth brush - Rubbermaid has one that I use to scrub all kinds of stuff in the tanks
2. Electric hand held mixer stirrer or cocktail stirrer - I got a cheap one from a coffee kit. I love this for all for reef and other powder additives or two part mixes.

Vortex Mixer is a must for using test kits. I used it for miniature painting, works really well for test vials too. $30 off of amazon.

My favorite for the overflow teeth, straw brush. And little fishes mesh feeder. I use the frozen foods with gel binder. My CBB loves it. And kitchen colander. I put the end of my hose in it during water changes. To avoid curious fish from getting sucked up.

No, about 45mins away from Ann Arbor but we visit frequently.
Just a VERY big Michigan fan lol

Everyone seems to have left out a sreen or tank cover. Otherwise, sooner or later someone will end up on the floor!

Your list is sound however the best tool for your reef is your reefing plan.
Set your parameters and have a plan to bring them in range when they exceed your setpoint.
You can have all the equipment needed but it's the plan thats the most important tool in your reefing toolbox.

BUCKETS! you can never have enough 5 gal buckets. Costco buckets are my favorite, followed by home depot.

For #1 i love this product. attach it to a bucket, vaccuum, remove the bucket, dump, repeat: https://amzn.to/4st5MLi

For #34, I have recently started enjoying the @AVAST Marine plank feeder for freeze dried food. pretty much all the benefits of frozen, if not more, with less issues and electric draw: https://www.avastmarine.com/product...o1RuOfUBszGUpzeDzE8vpUIyPPnULYTl6V00amInzs3ur
You are absolutelly right! How could I forget! Added.

Thank you for sharing! I've added Beakers and Magnetic stirring plate, but buckets already added, as for the rest - it is already in the list or outside of the list scope idea.
