Hey guys, got a 40 gallon breeder tank that's about 2 months old, got 2 little onyx clowns in it right now. From my own searches on other peoples posts these are Diatoms (a form of algae) and are a sign of the ugly stage. So I know I don't need to worry too much but I do want to know what can I do actively/preemptively to make sure I come out of the ugly stage just fine, along with anything NOT to do to make the situation worse, with the additional question of, is it safe to add more fish while this is happening? Really looking to add my next fish and I would like to know if I should just be more patient a little longer.

Yes they are likely diatom. They’ll go away as your tank matures, establish its own micro fauna. Till then regular water change, flow and controlling light is your best option.
