Hello all! My fish, especially the clown fish, seem to be getting a bit tired of frozen mysis and TDO pelllets. I was wondering your experience with occasionally feeding live food as a treat to mix things up?
This came to my mind bcuz I added some tigger pods to clean up some algae and as some little treats for my fish, and they went way crazier for those little bugs than I thought they would.
My tank consists of…
2 clowns
1 yellow watchman goby
1 tiger pistol shrimp
1 purple firefish
3 nassarius snails
1 margarita snail
1 trochus snail

If I could get a constant supply of little live bugs and plankton for my fish I would only feed the tank live foods to mimic a more natural menu for them. Pellets and frozen are convenient for me to use but as you noted the fish really prefer a fresh live meal.

I compromise with frozen and also feed fresh chopped live foods that I can get at the supermarket.

Are copepods and tigger pods enough nutrition long term or only as a treat? They aren’t too expensive at my local store.

My next question then is… experiences breeding tigger pods or copepods? Is it worth it?

I buy live clams from the supermarket and mince one a day to feed my tank. All the fish love it.

I hatch baby brine shrimp occasionally for my fish, they love it, and its fun to watch the fish eat them. Super easy to hatch, and almost free compared to the price of copepods.

How big are these? Do you think they’re suitable for the fish I listed?
I can't find a picture now but they are the same size as these black worms but they are white and live in dirt.
