I feel badly to say this, but I want to keep my live rock for a new tank setup, but it's encrusted with GSP and I'm having thoughts of how I can get rid of this coral. I guess there's no really merciful way to do this and not destroying the biological filtration of the rock.

Anyone have any thoughts, please share.

Unfortunately with manual removal regrowth back at some point is highly likely.

Panacure C will melt off the gsp but it might affect the good bacteria. Also it would be a few months till you could have snails in the tank afterwards if you go this route

I was a newbie in all this and didn't know GSP was so invasive. I do have a question though: if I keep the rock in the new tank, can it 'jump' from one rock to another?

Sell the rock to a hobbyist and buy a new rock.
LOL - I never even thought of that....I think ultimately from what has been posted here, there's no possibility for me to keep these rocks. :(

If it's isolated a decent distance away should be ok and if you see signs of spreading just spot treat that area

New hobbyists are always looking to buy colonies at affordable prices. I don’t know how big the rock is but it’s not outlandish for someone to pay $100 for a large gsp colony.

Pics indeed!

It doesn't hurt to see how attached it is, if you can find a place to gentle tug at it.

I will say I had a patch, it had partially attached to the rock, I finally decided I would remove the future headache, and I see a small patch growing.... So yeah, its going to be hard to get rid of
