Live Sand. Did I mess up?

I started my aquarium with Caribsea live sand. Did I do a bad thing as far as adding pests and such in my main display? If so, what can I do to make it right?

i started my tank with that same kind of live sand as well. i honestly don't know how "live" it was, being bagged up and on a shelf for some length of time.

at any rate, i didn't have any issues i could attribute to it. my hitchhikers all came from my live rock, and thankfully none of them were bad.

I used dry rock so I'm good there. I just didn't really think about it being able to contain pests.

Is there a particular kind of pest you're concerned with?

I wouldn't worry too much about it. As you add to the tank things will come in on coral frags and other items.

As long as you properly quarantine and if necessary treat you will be fine.

My typical route is that anything and everything gets quarantined for 8 - 10 weeks under observation. I don't use prophylactic treatment (a personal choice and debated topic). This helps to ensure that the only stuff that goes in my display is what I want to put there.

You'll be fine. I've started 2 separate tanks, one with CaribSea Arag Alive Hawaiian Black and another with Indo-Pacific Black. No pests in either one. As has been stated, hitchikers (both good and bad) usually come from live rock.

Yep you are fine. That's good sand in my opinion. I used it on my newest tank. No issues what so ever. Live rock as others have said will have hitch hikers normally.

What did you use to start your cycle? For example did you use fish, pure ammonia or did you just add sand and dry rock?

I used a table shrimp. Then added Bio Spira a week later. I put the shrimp on a rock and watched it deteriorate. It's pretty cool to watch it all happen!

I used indo pacific and black agronite live sand and sumthin I noticed the other night was my magnetic scraper fell into my sand and sum of it stuck to the magnet in perfect rings in the center and made me wonder does this sand have sumthin in that is metal or magnetic
