I had always used special grade sand but on my new tank someone recommended reef flakes. I really like it. I see evidence where strong flow will push it around but it doesn't seem to cause sand storms.

I have a 125 with two gyers and used fiji pink. It makes small ripples in the sand but after a couple of days things calmed down and i adjusted the returns to keep from making bald spots in the corners.

I don’t think it matters, buy what you like.
You need to play with the powerheads and returns to avoid a sand storm

You can see where it built up in the middle.. after making adjustments and grooming the sand it now stays flat for the most part
