Looking for a new skimmer.

I have a 120g lps dominated tank and am in need of a new skimmer. The total volume of my system is 150g and is lightly stocked with only 6 small fish and I don't intend to add much more in the future. One of my bigger concerns is a energy efficient and reliable skimmer. I was thinking of a super reef octopus 1000 int I know it is somewhat of a small skimmer for my tank but feel it would be ok because of my low stocking. Thoughts or suggestions for a better fit for my tank?

I would step up to the SRO XP2000I, I run it on my 125 with 55 gal sump for a total volume of about 125-135 and it seems to work really well. Or the XP3000I

Thats not big enough for your tank, even though you only have a few fish, coral dominated tanks need the bigger skimmers, not for the fish.

When picking a skimmer, u need to know water volume, and also budget. I can find u a sweet skimmer that will work perfectly, it's only gunna be about $1100. :0 lol

If you have no budget, then I would def look into a bubble king. Very efficient, and arguably the best skimmer on the market. I have a double cone 250 on my 250g tank, and it only runs at 36w.

If your looking for something a little more budget friendly, the new reef octopus skimmers are supposed to be the bomb. They are exact replicas of the more expensive Vertex omega skimmer. I've heard it's a very nice skimmer for the money. Also I've heard nothing but good on the aquamaxx skimmers. Very reasonably priced, and they are workhorses! I know a few people that have them and absolutely love them.

Sorry Madness buddy, it's not cheaper and it doesn't have a large air silencer. Other than that same Sicce 1000 pump. Still it's a good skimmer and very quiet.

Thanks for the input everyone I will be getting a larger skimmer. I found the rlss r8i skimmer that I think would fit my needs and everyone says that the waveline dc pump that they use are nearly silent which is a big plus for me.

I have a similar setup and my JNS sk2 / Aquamaxx cone-2 is very well built, quiet and performs reliably. Honestly it is 80% of a bubble king except not having really top of the line stuff. Kind of like a Nissan GTR vs Ferrari 458.

If I were you I would rather spend $400 on a good/popular/reliable skimmer and spend the rest $600 on algae prevention items/reactors/lights/RODI or livestock. keep in mind that if u face problems down the road with the skimmer, you will have a lot of help with a popular well-priced skimmer v/s expensive one as there far more owners out there.
