I ordered a juvenile Desjardini sailfin tang, and after a lengthy stay in quarantine and entering display my hunch seems to be confirmed.

This is just a regular sailfin tang correct?

for the sleuths out there, his fins are recovering from getting picked on in quarantine, he was in with a orange storm clown and a lawnmower blenny. i never saw him getting picked on but his fins were nipped way down.

I think you maybe right. My desjardini's face has dots like starry blenny and the face color is more of light brown/blue while yours is yellow.

IDK the answer but I wanted to see what this fish is you are asking about. On LA site they post the following.

Please Note: The Small Juvenile form of the Desjardini Tang may not have spots on the fins or body and are very similar in appearance to a Sailfin Tang. However with age, the spots will develop as well as the bold striping on their fins and body.

At this age the best way to tell is the patterns on the large fins (which are missing). They are difficult to identify otherwise, being close cousins after all. There should have been SOME patterning on the fins (in the areas missing) unless you received a VERY young juvenile.
