Hi!

My Eclipse Overflow (medium) is quite loud (see video). Any tricks to quiet it down?

I realize I forgot to order the Spears Gate Valve. Will order that today. Is it possible I have too much flow going through the overflow? It’s rated for 800 gph, on a 950 gph pump that’s somewhere around 400 gph at its lowest.

40 gallon tank.

There are a few things that you can try. (1) raise the water level with a siphon adjust valve on the primary drain, (3) add a Durso-type stand pipe onto the primary drain, and/or (3) remove the PVC stub from the primary drain.

If you post via you tube…many more people will see it.
I run my Eclipse wide open and it’s silent.

Thanks for commenting.

1 I don’t know what “siphon adjust valve“ is.
2 will research and try the durso stand pipe thing tomorrow. Pretty sure this is user-error though and shouldn’t need modifications out of the box.
3 made zero difference. Seems as though it’s gurgling and too much air is going down the main pipe.

The siphon adjust valve is a valve, preferably a gate valve, on the sump side of the primary drain plumbing between the overflow box and the sump. This will allow you to raise the water level in the overflow box.

Perfect. It’s on order. I didn’t realize I had forgotten to include it.

My experience has been that gurgling is the result of water going down the drain while air is coming up.

Installing a vent tube in the drain for air to flow out so as to not interfere with the flow of water going in to the drain resolved the problem.
