I recently moved my ATO container into a cabinet beside my tank. This help make the area look better but has a side effect of hiding how much water is in the container.
My idea is a float or optical sensor near the bottom of the container that will power on a socket with a lamp connected to it. When the water level drop below the sensor it would turn on a nice lamp sitting on the cabinet and my wife or I would know to add water.

The autoaqua smart skimmer security was my first thought. the plug is off when the sensor is submerged but it also beeps and needs to be unplugged to turn the socket on.

Does anyone have any ideas? I don't have a controller or this would be pretty easy.

Thanks
