Sorry didn't know about this horse section. It's been 31/2 months, and going strong. My black seahorse was collected locally, LI, in mid December, in 37 degree water, along with pipefish, blicklefish, a small grouper, Killiefish, mud and grass shrimp and scallops. I wasn't prepared to start another tank, and used my QT(20 gal.). Everything was transferred to a 60 a month later. Everything is still doing well and eating. I didn't lose any fish. I started feeding with live brine shrimp. My fish didn't eat, nor did I feed them until my water temp. increased to 65 degrees. No heat. Tank is in basement with window open, no chiller. By the end of January, everyone was eating frozen shrimp.
I never thought any of these fish would survive. A 30 degree swing in temp. would kill most fish. But, everybody is fat and happy.
I'm amazed that these critters get along fine. In fact, they all swim together. They lie on top of each other at times, shrimp included. With the warmer water, the fish have increased their feeding and growth. My shrimp are disappearing, and the predator fish are hungry. I've increased feeding. I also use the bay water, no synthetic water yet.
It's incredible! I watch my local tank more than my 180 reef. It's just great having this local tank. I'm so happy to be back in the hobby.
