Tank: Waterbox Cube 10
Lighting: Aquaknight v2
Flow: Jebao ELW-3M wavemaker
Return: Allpondsolutions 1000
Filtration: Filter cup with Red Sea carbon and Rowaphos with filter floss on top
Rock: Caribsea liferock
Substrate: Caribsea seafloor special grade

I have kept numerous tanks through the years from a 50 litre nano to a 400 litre system, however due to a new addition to the family, in 2020 I decided to give up the hobby. Fast forward 4 years and this not so new addition has asked for a fish….perfect excuse to start the hobby up again!

I initially set up a 5g pico reef, things were going smoothly until I decided to add some bacteria to the tank to combat some dinos....I mis read the dosing instructions and overdosed the tank causing a massive bacterial bloom which starved my tank of oxygen. I then lost all of my livestock; 2 clowns, cleaner shrimp and various snails.

Here is a FTS before the bacteria bloom

I kept the tank going, despite being close to shutting it down, and a waterbox 10 popped up for sale fairly locally for cheap. So I decided to upgrade the tank, add new sand and a piece of caribsea life rock.

I did add another clown but that got brook and died, so now I’ve got to leave it fallow for a couple of months!

My hammers in my hammer garden were also sulking since the bacteria bloom and I lost a couple…I then figured out my mag levels have been sitting at 1100! I’ve since been slowly bringing them up and the hammers have started to come out a lot more!

And here we are now, I plan to add to the acan I have and have a little acan garden and then maybe add a torch to the left side away from the hammers.

This is high stakes... your little one may become attached to the fish, so a toxic event causes real pain. But also good to teach them the circle of life at an early age. Between owning fish and watching the Lion King (original of course) i'm sure you will enjoy the new tank with your little one!

Little update!

I left the tank fallow for 6 weeks and then picked up a mis bar mocha clown and ice mocha clown from a local breeder

I’ve added to my acan garden with a few more and added a torch to the left piece of rock. I’m also trying to get a mushroom/ricordea garden going too!

I haven’t been too successful with my hammer garden I wanted to start but a couple of them are doing well, I’ve lost a couple though which I’m still unsure as to why 🤷🏼‍♂️ maybe I added too many at once and the bacterial bloom didn’t help. Here’s an up to date FTS
