Lunar Light - stand alone

I have Hydra Edge lights on my 170 gallon and the only moonlight it has is white. It's ugly. I hate it. (Radions give you the option of white or blue, and you can mix them as you like.) I'd love to get a stand-alone moon light that also follows the lunar cycle, but can't find anything online. Neptune has lunar lights, but for Apex, which I won't have. Does anyone know of anything like that?

Aqua illumination fixtures have the option to choose what spectrum you can run as moonlight. I loved their programming and app when i had them.

It probably has different programming than the older hydra 26 and such

With the old hydras and maybe the old version of the app (dont know if they've updated it to work differently), you could just add whatever channel you wanted to run all night and then toggle on lunar phases for the program to initate waxing and waning

So I just realized that yes, this works on the Hydra Edge too, which is neat. You don't have to use the Moon light, choose any light you want at whatever intensity and turn on the Lunar phase feature - and the lights will follow the phases of the Moon. One issue though is for Moonlight one obviously wants something not bright. So I chose 1% Royal Blue and 1% UV. But when you enter into a new phase of the Moon, the light can't handle that little illumination, so it just goes out. It can't do 0.5%.

So I just realized that yes, this works on the Hydra Edge too, which is neat. New moon phase was always 0% when I ran lunar cycle. Have u tried it at higher percentage and it stayed illuminated during this phase?

I've never ran moonlights. My tangs would never go to bed if I did. They already stay up late because my Gal stays up late watching TV and they stay out swimming until the TV is turned off.

I edited the light schedule on my hydra edge 44hd to just add 1-2% UV and dark blue during the evening moonlight period

This! We ran moonlight mode on our Radions for 9 months. During that time, our Powder blue was a jerk to everyone in the tank, including corals. We added a Mono Argentis Angel, but quickly noticed that the powder blue would chase him all night. We decided to turn off the moonlight for a few days so that the Mono could settle in. Within days, the powder blue became a model citizen in the tank. We didn’t realize that the moonlight gave him insomnia. We will not be turning them back on.

Maybe a curtain. I have suspended curtains above my tank before to shade the lights.

It may come to that. I might just get a tarp that blocks lights and hang it from the tank with a couple of weights holding it and roll it up each morning. Sometimes the TV is on till 2 or 3 am and the tangs get up as soon as daylight peaks in a window so they can't really getting much rest but they look and act fine so maybe it bothers me more than them lol.

New moon phase was always 0% when I ran lunar cycle. Have u tried it at higher percentage and it stayed illuminated during this phase?

I'll try that tonight and see. Problem is during full moon the higher percentage would be super bright! I'm the Goldilocks of moonlight.

One thing I don't care for in these lights is when you make adjustments it immediately switches to that light so as you make changes, it keeps changing, freaking out the fish. I just want to enter some numbers without having the light constantly changing! Any way to do that? To deactivate this "preview?"

It may come to that. I might just get a tarp that blocks lights and hang it from the tank with a couple of weights holding it and roll it up each morning. I have no idea. What ever stupid stuff she likes to watch I guess lol. I'm not much of a TV fan these days. When I use a streaming service by the time I wade through the trash to find something decent to watch its bedtime

Yes the royal blue, I forgot what it was called exactly lol

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm standing here looking around and spot the old curtain on our slider that my Gal has been complaining about. I can buy her a new curtain and repurpose the old one.
