Luzonicus starfish accident

Hi guys!

My luzonicus starfish (in tank for 6 months) has unfortunately made her way onto my powerhead during maintenance. She lost two of her legs due to this. Central disc is undamaged and she is still moving around.

What are the chances she will successfully regrow her legs?

What are the signs things are not going to work out?

Any treatment or things I could do to increase her odds?

Wow, I'm not sure what to expect. Yes, sea stars can regenerate their legs, but I don't know how badly your star is hurt. I'll bet @vetteguy53081 has seen this kind of thing.

That might not be too bad! I would certainly watch for any signs of infection. Vetteguy may know some type of antibiotic that may help.

Considering she's moving around, if your water parameters are good/stable, I think she has a reasonably high chance to survive.. If you have hermits I'd try to coral them, relocate to sump or something for a while, give her a chance to heal.

Probably beneficial to run / change carbon too.

Yeah, the cut looks quite “clean”. Her behaviour is normal and active, but I don’t have much experience with invert injuries either. I do have an empty QT that has never been dosed with copper. So medicating would be an option if needed

I indeed have some Hermits! Good suggestion. I managed to take out the legs which were cut. Will change my carbon :)

Update: The starfish has been doing well. The parts of the arms that were cut have shown no signs of infection and are now starting to grow a tip shape.
