Yes, MASNA shut down. Too much competition with RAP and Aquashella I assume. Plus they were geared more toward speakers and manufacturers, which I don't think is as popular now with social media. I always wanted to go to MACNA but they refused to have it at a family friendly time. It was always after school started so we couldn't make a family vacation out of it. There were several places it was held that I would have loved to have gone a week early to do all the vacation stuff and then the last 2 days I could do MACNA and the wife/kids could do things they wanted to do but I didn't. I brought this up a few times but was always told travel was cheaper after school started and if they did it during the summer no one would show up due to costs. Apparently cost isn't keeping the crowds from RAP or Aquashella. So is MACNA / MASNA a done deal?
I was just looking for next year's dates only to realize 2024 was CANCELLED!
What gives? Is she a GONER?
It's a shame you missed it. We went when it was at the Georgia Aquarium and had an absolute blast.Yes, MASNA shut down. Too much competition with RAP and Aquashella I assume. I would have gone to several of them if they would have done them in the summer. I would have loved to do the on in DC. Just impossible with kids in school and the wife is a teacher so she can't take off. It's a shame you missed it. We went when it was at the Georgia Aquarium and had an absolute blast.
Hopefully we can get to RAP next year. We were out of the states during the last one.
wow that's fantastic! There's a new show in the MACNA style being organized this year that's more for experienced reefers and focused on education and meeting friends/community building. It's being held at Roger Willams University in Bristol, Rhode Island, dates are June 6th-8th 2025. RWU is where Andy Rhyne, former MASNA award winner and frequent MACNA speaker, has his Marine Biology lab. He's also one of the main conference organizers.
I'm very excited and looking forward to it! Especially since I never got to go to MACNA, I got into the hobby just before COVID.
