Whether adding to a refugium or directly into the DT (Display Tank) macro algae is an awesome addition to any aquarium, while providing another natural resource for maintaining superior water chemistry. While macro algae processes nutrients like nitrates and phosphates as it grows, it doesn’t export them in the same manner as phytoplankton. What this means is that although our tests may show lower concentrations of these nutrients, the nutrients themselves are still present in the system. Removal of the nutrients is accomplished with the removal or harvest of a portion of the macro algae, allowing it to regenerate and extract more nutrients as it continues to grow.
