Mag 5 pump

I have a Mag 5 hooked up to my EV-120 skimmer. I have never ran it consistently, maybe 1 day a week. I recently purchased a used Reefkeeper II and was going to hook it up so that it would run for about 6-8 hours each day.

It was working fine, then all of a sudden it stopped and was making a loud vibration/rattling noise. I took off the cover to see if it needed cleaning, but it still is not working.

Is this pump a gonner or will a new impeller fix it?

Lastly, is it okay to run this pump with that kind of schedule (off/on) time?

ahhhh, check the housing and make sure the little cap with 3 plastic strips holding in place is still there. if all is well replace both the impeller and the housing as they wear together. every now and the if the pump "blew air" for an extended period of time the impeller cavity warps and you need to hit the side of the pump to get it working. it that case an on/off scenario will not work

Thanks for the reply. I'm just trying to figure out the "little cap with 3 plastic strips" part you are referring to. If I take off all 4 screws, is it the part I removed? I do not have a manual, so I'm not sure what I am looking for. What if this piece is not there. Did it wear away and the entire pump is no good?

yes the part you removed. in the 3/4 opening there should be a littlecap there that holds the impeller in place
