Hey Fellow Reefers,

Looking to get some input on the following:

Would it harmful to a AC powered submersible Mag Pump when restricting the "Output" flow?

Reason: Temp fix until I can get a more suitable pump as a return pump. Had a Mag Pump (Model 3) lying around and plumbed it in. However, the flow was too much for the overflow, so I needed to dial it back a little using the already plumbed in ball valve.

Thoughts and personal experiences are much appreciated. Thanks in advance for any input. :)

You’ll be more than fine. In fact, when you valve back the out put of an AC pump, it will save energy by reducing the wattage draw as well.

As stated, no issue in restricting a MAG pump. The other option would be to tee off the return line back to your sump. This tee'd line would have a valve to control return flow.

Thank you to everyone with their responses. :D

I like the idea of adding a tee to the plumbing. Going to get the fittings next time I'm out and about.
